Intel’s dominance of the notebook market the last few years has made reviewing a little less interesting. There are only so many ways to heap praise on Centrino. As we near the end of our wait for AMD’s long overdue response to Centrino, Intel has fired another salvo; Centrino 2. This Toshiba Satellite A300-02C is my first notebook using Intel’s latest bits and I am giddy like a school girl to test it out.

Review: Acer’s Dekotora Notebook - Aspire 6920
7 09 2008What’s with all the Acer reviews lately? As a value-conscious consumer with a weakness for technology I am drawn to a good deal. Have a quick look at what Staples is selling for $697.00 CDN (while supplies last).
Hardware Highlights:
- Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 1.83 GHz CPU
- NVIDIA GeForce 9500m GS with 512 MB of RAM
- 16″ WXGA High-Definition Display With 1366 x 768 Resolution with 16:9 aspect ratio
- 320 GB SATA Hard Drive (5400 RPM)
- 3 GB DDR2 System Memory
- Super Multi 8X DVD±R/RW with Double Layer Support

Turn off the lights and this is what you see... it isn't as cool though
Based on specifications, this looks like a bargain but sometimes looks can be deceiving.

27 07 2008Montevina notebooks are popping out everywhere and that means there are deals to be had on Intel’s previous platform; Santa Rosa. This is great news for value-centric consumers.
Gateway has been on a roll since being acquired by Acer last year. Acer’s aggressive pricing for decent specifications combined with Gateway’s newfound sense of style makes the $599 Gateway T-6321 a notebook of interest.
Hardware Highlights:
- 14.1″ WXGA High-Definition Display With 1280 x 800 Resolution
- 160GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
- 3 GB DDR2 System Memory
- LabelFlash Super Multi 8X DVD±R/RW with Double Layer Support

Asus EEE PC 2G Surf Review
18 01 2008Over the past couple of years computers designed for developing nations have received a fair bit of media attention, especially in the tech community. Immediately, the implications of computing for the masses gained traction and immediate attention from the world’s poorest economies. Could this be a great equalizer? Read the rest of this entry »

Review: Toshiba Satellite P200
15 06 2007Toshiba’s P200-MB105C is a 17” desktop replacement model targeted at the mainstream PC user: small office/home office and students.
Unlike last year’s P100 that came in several performance configurations, this year’s model only comes in a single configuration with an MSRP of $1299 (CDN). It is a pretty conservative computer as the specs reveal. Read the rest of this entry »

Review: LG R1
9 11 2006Our latest review sample from LG is the LG R1-C001A9 model which retails for $1400 USD or $1500 CDN.
LG touts the R1 series of notebooks, “14 inch wide screen multimedia powerhouse.” A quick look at the specs reveal a fairly conservative offering. Let’s see if we are missing something or if the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Read the rest of this entry »

Review: Toshiba Qosmio G30
7 10 2006Today we take a look at Toshiba Canada’s Qosmio G30 (specifically the PQG31C-HD202E ). The G30 closely resembles Toshiba USA’s Qosmio G35-AV650 in specification so this review should give you an idea of that unit’s performance. Both models are priced at $2,999.99 direct from Toshiba – street prices may be a little lower. Read the rest of this entry »

Review: Electrovaya Scribbler SC3000
30 08 2005What is an Electrovaya Scribbler SC3000 Premium?
The Electrovaya Scribbler SC3000 Premium is true ‘writing slate’ style computer that uses Microsoft’s Tablet PC Operating System. Based on Windows XP Professional, but with significant usability enhancements such as pen and speech input, this operating system has been billed for at least a few years as a glimpse at the future of personal computing. Review: LG LM70
9 06 2005Korean technology companies are going to take over the world. I have felt this way since the 2002 Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas, where Samsung and LG showed up with some of the nicest products I have ever seen. Both companies went from being bargain brands to be best in class in about a decade - amazing.

Review: Rally Shift
8 03 2004One of the most neglected game genres on the Mac is racing. Sure, there have been some good racing games on the platform but aside from the occasional novelty title or outdated licensed game we really have not had a lot to be excited about. After you finish the yearly Nascar Racing (a must-have for any oval racing fan) refresh there really isn’t a whole lot left. Read the rest of this entry »
