It looks like my initial guess as to the specs of the M11x gaming netbook were pretty close.
I predicted:
- Intel CULV to Core 2 Duo SU9600 (max 10-12 Watt TDP)
- Nvidia 9400m G chipset
- Geforce 335m GT 1 GB GDD3
- Hybrid SLI (performance and power saver)
- 11″ 16:10 screen 768p
- 4 GB DDR2
- 250 GB 5400 rpm HDD (SSD Options)
- Integrated 5600 mAh Lithium Polymer battery
- Up to 8 hours in stealth mode
- Up to 2 hours in Performance mode
- Approximately 5 lb travel weight
- AlienFX lighting
- Optional Webcam
- Optional Bluetooth
- Windows 7
Apart from the omission of the Nvidia 9400m chipset and the battery life, I was pretty close. They will be available soon at a starting price of $799. Pretty amazing considering how many anemic Atom and CULV netbooks are in the same price range.
From the excellent ongoing discussion at NBR:
According to Dell the M11X
- Scores 6000 to 7000 3DMarks (I’m guessing 3DMark06 looking at the specs of the graphic card).
- Has 6 and a half hours of battery life and over 2 hours during “intense” gaming.
- Runs Call of Duty MW2 on high settings and HD resolution at more than 30 frames per second.
- Runs Crysis at 50 frames per second. (Unknown settings)
For the cost of an Acer Timeline, the little Alienware seems like a pretty amazing value. For an extra $100-200 you are getting Xbox 360 power that you can carry around with you wherever you go.
There are no circumstances that I can envision that would prevent this from being a huge success. I’ll have one for review soon.
