AMD has managed to wrangle a 25 TDP Phenom II out of their latest CPU manufacturing process. If that part would have been ready six months ago, AMD might have really stirred the pot this holiday season.
But we’ll be prepping for 6 core, 12 thread mobile CPUs from Intel by the time AMD’s Quads hit store shelves. And Phenom has a tough time against Core 2 Duo, how will Phenom II mobile parts be able to surpass Core i7?
AMD has a complete platform. While the CPU is always going to be second fiddle to Intel, AMD’s GPUs obliterate anything Intel can conjure up. Intel’s Larrabee performance anxiety right after the launch of the 5800 series RADEONs is all the proof I need.
So AMD must leverage their advantage in more than just some cheesy CeBIT PowerPoint slides. Especially since they have been showing that Spider/Dragon/Fusion/Vision/Whatever slide for three years now and we still have not seen a real answer to Intel’s (now ancient) Centrino.
