Picking on Apple

31 01 2009

Two companies I am pretty critical of are Apple and Nintendo. Some folks read my articles and think that I am anti-Apple (likewise with Nintendo). The reality is that just because a product might be the best on the market, that does not make it perfect. Anyone can tell you about the good features, I like to point out the other stuff people gloss over (price, reliability, heat issues, manufacturing defects).

If any one gets to judge, it should be a good customer. I am a good customer and I am judgmental.

My Apple Desktops (most were sold long ago):

  • Apple IIc
  • Mac II SE/30
  • PowerMac 7600
  • Performa 5260CD
  • PowerMac G3 Yosemite
  • PowerMac G4 SawTooth
  • iMac G3 SE
  • PowerMac G4 Quicksilver
  • PowerMac G4 MDD
  • iMac G4
  • Mac mini G4
  • iMac G5
  • iMac Core Duo
  • iMac Core 2 Duo (Aluminum)

My Apple Notebooks:

  • iBook G3 Snow
  • iBook G4
  • PowerBook G4 Titanium
  • PowerBook G4 Aluminum
  • MacBook Core Duo
  • MacBook Core 2 Duo
  • MacBook Unibody

None of these were review samples, I gladly spend my hard earned money on Apple stuff. Despite some occasionally serious issues, I still enjoy my Apple gear more than the others.

But when I do the cost/benefit recommendation I factor my many years of Apple (mostly) satisfaction. My current primary computers are an iMac and MacBook – I recommend them (but buy form the Apple refurb store and put your savings into RAM and HDD upgrades).
